Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)

A carbon footprint and life cycle assessment (LCA) is used to systematically record and analyse the impact on the environment throughout the entire life cycle of a product or service. This involves an end-to-end analysis of the product or service. The analysis considers all raw materials, transports, production processes, usage and disposal of the product. A carbon footprint at product level is a special application of the LCA methodology that specifically focuses on greenhouse gas emissions.

Typical applications at a glance:

  • Overview of the emissions for individual products and services, and identification of optimisation potentials
  • Comparisons of products or services in terms of eco-friendliness
  • Development of a climate- and/or environmentally-friendly product
  • Acknowledgement of a climate-friendly product
  • Securing a climate-neutral product or service by compensation CO₂ emissions

Rough analysis

A rough analysis is helpful in creating initial estimates. The focus here is on key processes. A rough analysis by myclimate is a low-cost service that finds quick answers to questions relating to the climate or environmental impact of products and processes. In many cases, the relevant processes and sources of emissions («hot spots») can be identified and potential actions developed. A rough analysis concentrating on CO₂ emissions identifies the amount of compensation needed for a product, for example, enabling you to deliver climate-neutral products and processes.

Detailed analysis

A detailed analysis gives you the chance to analyse processes in-depth. It offers a comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of a product or service. These calculations comply with internationally recognised standards (ISO 14040/44, ISO 14067, PAS 2050, GHG Product Life Cycle Standard).
