At the request of Sedus Stoll AG, myclimate calculated the carbon footprint for a swivel chair from its Black Dot line. The calculation took into consideration the chair’s entire lifecycle, meaning the raw materials, production, packaging, distribution and disposal. All the chair’s components are bought in Europe (the majority from Germany) and transported exclusively by truck. This gives a relatively small footprint of around 165 kg of carbon dioxide. The result shows how the choice of raw materials makes up the highest savings potential. The German producer of office equipment has been dedicated to ecology and environmental protection for many years already and has, for example, instituted a programme so that chairs can be returned at the end of their lifespan.
