Huge climate pioneer party with Bertrand Piccard and 1,500 pupils

In mid-November, some 1,500 young climate pioneers from all over Switzerland converged on the "Umwelt Arena" (Environment Arena) near Zurich where they were honoured by Bertrand Piccard for their commitment to climate protection.

Today, 77 school classes from all over Switzerland, which had been actively involved as climate pioneers during the 2011/2012 school year, came together within the framework of the "Climate Pioneers" initiative to celebrate at the second huge climate party (<link www.facebook.com/media/set/ - external-link-new-window>photos on Facebook</link>). As a token of thanks, the pupils between the ages of 6 and 16 were able to meet and extend an enthusiastic welcome to their shining example, project patron and Solar Impulse pilot Bertrand Piccard, in the Umwelt Arena near Zurich (<link www.youtube.com/watch - external-link-new-window>YouTube video</link>).

Another highlight of the climate party was the rising Swiss rapper Knackeboul, who surprised the climate pioneers with a world premiere. Together with some of the climate pioneers, he rehearsed a climate rap, which was performed for the first time at the climate party.

Since the launch of the "Climate Pioneers" initiative in September 2010, around 6,300 pupils from the German and French-speaking parts of Switzerland have realised more than 270 climate protection projects. "Climate Pioneers" is a Swisscom initiative run in partnership with myclimate and Solar Impulse.
