The well-known outdoor outfitter Vaude from Tettnang on Lake Constance was again able to improve in its latest climate balance 2019. The family business, which is a convinced and long-standing partner of myclimate, has reduced its product-related emissions by 17 % compared to the previous year. To ensure that all Vaude products are climate-neutral in the future, the company's managers are now focusing on the emissions of its global suppliers and are setting ambitious climate targets in the form of science-based targets. In product manufacturing, the company plans to avoid the use of newly extracted fossil raw materials as far as possible. By 2024, Vaude aims to achieve that 90% of its products have a bio-based or recycled material content of over 50%.
Already since 2012, the southern German company site is climate neutral with all products manufactured there. Unavoidable emissions are offset through a Gold Standard climate protection project from myclimate. The high-quality project replaces traditional coal stoves in rural households in the province, Shanxi, Hubei and Guizhou in China with gas stoves that are operated with corn spindles (unused remains of corn cobs). By replacing coal with this biomass, CO₂ emissions are reduced and the air quality in the homes is improved, improving the health of women and children.
