Project visit in Itacoatiara, Brazil

Soon before the start of Rio+20, myclimate CEO, René Estermann, and Head of Sales, Marketing and Communication, Kathrin Dellantonio, took the chance to visit the myclimate offset project in Itacoaria, Brazil.

In this project, a woodchip power plant covers about 50 per cent of the energy needs of approximately 80,000 people. Tomorrow, the two will have the opportunity to visit the forest where the wood waste for the power plant is gained. This forest is managed by Precious Woods and run strictly according to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines. Prior to the start-up of the plant, this wood waste was rotting in large piles on the property. Through the sustainable use of the wood waste, a reduction of the greenhouse gas methane is achieved.

Once more, myclimate can vouch for the excellent quality of this Gold Standard CDM project: sustainable forestry in the heart of the otherwise endangered amazon rainforest, integrated wood production with FSC certification and energetic use of wood waste which accounts for about 80 per cent of the timber harvesting.
