Maestrani – Climate-neutral Chocolate Enjoyment

Swiss manufacturer Maestrani has been creating chocolate temptations for more than 160 years, with a focus on corporate climate protection. Each year the company studies its carbon footprint to calculate all of its greenhouse gas emissions. This process analyses and evaluates all business activities, from auxiliary and raw materials to energy consumption and transport. Maestrani uses the sustainability software myclimate smart 3 for CO₂ and resource management.

 

Maestrani has been manufacturing CO2-neutral chocolate since 2014. The Maestrani organic and fair-trade chocolate bars have been awarded the myclimate label "climate neutral". This means all of the emissions caused in the manufacturing chain are offset. For this purpose, Maestrani has had the specific CO₂ emissions in its organic and Fairtrade chocolate line calculated by myclimate and has offset these in the carbon offset project Efficient Stoves in Peru.

In addition, Maestrani has made its business travel climate neutral and likewise offsets it in the carbon offset project Efficient Stoves in Peru.

The choosen climate protection project aims at improving the living conditions of the local population in various regions of Peru in the long run. To do so, the project introduces efficient cook stoves with chimneys. It also reduces demand for unsustainably produced firewood. This reduces CO₂ emissions and protects the local forest.
