At the end of the school year, the first Energy and Climate Pioneer Festival took place on 25 July 2016, in Germany. About 900 pupils from Baden-Wuerttemberg schools and one from Bavaria participated in the educational project and about 150 of them were conferred Energy and Climate Pioneers awards by goalkeeper of the year Lutz Pfannenstiel (<link www.globalunitedfc.com/en/ - external-link "Opens external link in current window">Global United FC</link>) and State Secretary Dr. Andre Baumann (<link um.baden-wuerttemberg.de/en/home/ - external-link "Opens external link in current window">Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector Baden-Wuerttemberg</link>). The crossover band <link www.facebook.com/KnifflersMum - external-link "Opens external link in current window">Kniffler's Mum</link> got ears buzzing with their live rap and freestyle act, the likes of which the function rooms of the Interior Ministry have probably never seen before, and the music carried away the children and young people. Goalkeeper of the year Lutz Pfannenstiel, who has seen a lot of the world during his career, gave an insight into the non-profit team Global United FC which he founded and that with its more than 500 former professional footballers is committed worldwide to social climate protection and uses football as means to reach and inspire the local people for the issue.
