Miles-&-More app users can now offset their flights with the click of a button

The frequent flyer and award programme Miles & More has integrated the digital CO2 compensation platform Compensaid into its app. Users now have the option of reducing the CO2 emissions of their flight very easily directly in the app by purchasing synthetic paraffin or offsetting them via the non-profit climate protection organisation myclimate.

The Miles & More app now integrates Compensaid, the Lufthansa Group's digital CO2 compensation platform, which can also be used to support a myclimate carbon offset project.

This new function is called «mindfulflyer» and was developed jointly by Miles &More and the Lufthansa Innovation Hub. It allows participants to be reminded to regularly offset their flights. In the process, the user decides in what proportions sustainable aviation fuel or certified reforestation projects of the climate protection organization myclimate will be used and can specify this via a slider. Using the Cash & Miles function, the user can also choose whether he or she wants to offset only with miles or also proportionately with euros. For their climate protection commitment, Miles & More participants receive digital awards, such as the «Climate Supporter», which distinguish them as more environmentally conscious travellers. These awards can be shared via social media channels to inspire other travellers to also offset their flights and take responsibility.

«Offsetting CO₂ from a flight should not be complicated. With the new mindfulflyer offer, our passengers can see the CO₂ emissions of their flight at a glance and can now offset them easily and quickly even via miles. We want to actively promote this,» says Christina Foerster, Member of the Executive Board Customer, IT & Corporate Responsibility at the Lufthansa Group.

All air travelers who do not participate in the Miles&More award program can, of course, calculate their air travel directly via the myclimate flight calculator and offset it through certified carbon offset projects.
